Gavin Hudson, PhD

Newcastle University Research Fellow at Newcastle University

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne United Kingdom

Gavin Hudson, PhD, is a research fellow in the Insitute of Genetic Medicine and a principle investigator in the Wellcome Centre for Mitochondrial Research at Newcastle University in the United Kingdom. His research expertise includes collective characterization of large sets of genes and molecules using advanced genetic and mathematical methods.

He currently studies the role that mitochondrial DNA -- small DNA molecules inside mitochondria, cell's energy generators -- in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease (PD). Most recently, Dr. Hudson has been investigating other types of DNA and similar molecules and their potential utility as biomarkers -- objectively measurable characteristics of disease -- useful in diagnosis of PD and in tracing its progression.
