George Tofaris is a Professor of Neurology and Translational Neuroscience at the University of Oxford. He is a Consultant Neurologist at the John Radcliffe Hospital, leading regional specialist clinics in Movement and Neurogenetic Disorders. He graduated from the combined MB/PhD program of Cambridge University and trained in Internal Medicine and Neurology at London and Oxford University hospitals. He is an MRC Senior Clinical Fellow and previously held a Lefler Fellowship in Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School and a Wellcome Trust-Beit Fellowship at Oxford where he established his research group. Tofaris also coordinated the EU IMI Consortium IMPRiND, an international collaborative project between academia and industry. His research group is employing forward genetic screens, biochemical approaches and disease modeling in patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) with a view to better understand intracellular alpha-synuclein homeostasis and use this knowledge to identify new targets for therapies or biomarkers for the molecular stratification of parkinsonian syndromes.
