Joseph A. Lyons, PhD

Assistant Professor at Aarhus University

Location: Aarhus Denmark

Joseph Lyons, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Aarhus University, Denmark. He was awarded his PhD degree in 2013 by the University of Limerick after training in lipid chemistry, biophysics and membrane protein structural biology at Prof. Caffrey’s laboratory UL/Trinity College Dublin. A short postdoctoral stay in his PhD laboratory was followed by further postdoctoral studies in the lab of Prof. Nissen at Aarhus University. Here, Dr. Lyons was involved in the study of primary and secondary transporters which culminated in the solving of the first structures of a yeast lipid flippase by cryo-electron microscopy. His research interests include the use of and development of structural and molecular biology methods to study integral membrane proteins with a focus on elucidating the mechanism of function and regulation of lipid transporters.
