Dr. Nash completed his doctorate in biochemistry at the University of Queensland, Australia, before coming to the United States for post-doctoral training. He completed two post-doctoral studies at the University of Florida (UF) in biochemistry and virology, where he identified the mechanism of viral DNA replication for the gene therapy virus Adeno-associated virus. At UF he was also trained in the generation and use of viral vectors for gene delivery. He is now an assistant professor at the University of South Florida where he is examining the contribution of immune cells in Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. The use of viral vectors allows Dr. Nash’s lab to specifically examine expression or repression of individual genes within the brain to study the genes effects on pathology progression. He has published a number of papers on Adeno-associated virus biology and use as a gene therapy vector for neurological disorders.
