Dr. Paul is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of California, Los Angeles and aging disease epidemiologist. Her research focuses on using high-throughput, "omic technologies" to define the neurodegenerative disease process and elucidate risk at a biological level. "Omics" refers to the collective technologies used to explore the roles, relationships, and actions of the various types of molecules that make up the cells of an organism. Her research also integrates a systems biology approach to understand the larger picture of what is happening inside the body. Through NIH funding as principal investigator, she has investigated the interplay between genetics, epigenetics and recently metabolomics in Parkinson’s disease using several large-scale population-based studies, while integrating environmental exposure information to define molecular changes associated with both exposure and phenotype.
