Lisa Shafer, PhD, is a neuroscientist and accomplished business and R&D leader. As senior director of New Device and Bioelectronic Technologies at Teva Pharmaceuticals, she is responsible for identifying and assimilating new disruptive technologies and new solutions to address unmet clinical needs.
Prior to joining Teva, she served as vice president of Pharmaceutical R&D at Upsher-Smith Laboratories, where she managed 75 technical employees and was responsible for pharmaceutical research and development including internal development, external development. Her team's work led to product development, chemistry and analytical support, pre-clinical research, technical strategic alliance, program and portfolio management functions. She previously worked at Medtronic, Inc., eventually becoming principal scientist and leading a team responsible for translating new brain-targeted drug delivery opportunities through pumps, ports and catheters for the treatment of pain and other neurological disorders.
Dr. Shafer received her PhD from Loyola Medical Center, focusing on neuroimmunology. She has co-authored several scientific publications, as well as several issued patents and applications. She also serves on the board of directors of Medical Alley Association in the Minneapolis area.
