Marco Bortolato, PhD, is an associate professor of pharmacology and toxicology at the University of Utah. Dr. Bortolato is a behavioral neuroscientist and pharmacologist, who has studied the impact of neurosteroids and cannabinoids in the pathogenesis of neuropsychiatric disorders. His main line of research aims at the development of novel drugs for impulse-control disorders, with a particular emphasis on pathological aggression, problem gambling and Tourette syndrome. He has translated some of his discoveries into clinical studies on novel neurosteroid-based therapies for the management of Tourette syndrome and other disorders. Dr. Bortolato earned both a doctorate and a medical degree from the University of Cagliari, Italy.
