Miratul Muqit, MD, PhD, is a professor of experimental neurology at the University of Dundee. He is an expert in mitochondrial mechanisms of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and he also treats neurology patients in the clinic. His lab is focused on understanding the molecular basis of PINK1-mediated PD. Dr. Muqit made a major contribution to the discovery of PINK1 mutations in people with hereditary PD and has made several advances in understanding the regulation and downstream function of PINK1. He earned his medical degree from University of Edinburgh and his PhD in neuroscience from University College London. He completed neurology residency training in London, including at Queen Square. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (the UK’s national academy of medicine).
