Peter L. Strick, PhD, is Distinguished Professor and Thomas Detre Chair in the department of neurobiology at the University of Pittsburgh. He directs the Systems Neuroscience Center and co-directs the Center for Neuroscience. He heads the NIH-funded Center for Neuroanatomy with Neurotropic Viruses, which provides the neuroscience community with highly specialized reagents, training and facilities for the use of viruses to trace neuronal circuits. Dr. Strick’s research focuses on three major topics: how the motor areas of the cerebral cortex are involved in movement generation and control, as well as in motor skill acquisition and retention; how the basal ganglia and cerebellum affect movement, cognition, and mood; and the neural basis of the brain-body connection. Among his honors, Dr. Strick received an NIH Director’s Transformative Research Award (2018) and the Goldman-Rakic Prize from the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation (2022). He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2012.
