The Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) is changing how patients, families, doctors and scientists think about brain disease.
People with and without Parkinson's can play a critical role in PPMI. The study covers travel costs for potential participants and a loved one.
Scroll down for a list of international sites and their contact information.
PPMI is looking for volunteers who:
- Have been diagnosed with Parkinson's, including those with sustained ability to smell. Smell loss is linked with Parkinson’s, so researchers would like this group to take a smell test.
- Are age 40 and older without Parkinson's. Age is a risk factor for Parkinson's disease and so is smell loss. Researchers are asking this group to take a free scratch-and-sniff test.
- Act out their dreams while asleep, or with REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD), an early sign of brain disease risk. PPMI is exploring this connection and encourages this group to take a smell test.
- Anyone age 18 and older in the U.S. — with or without Parkinson's. This group can share valuable data on health and wellness with our online platform. Surveys will be sent directly to your inbox every 90 days.
If you're in the U.S. or Canada, visit mysmelltest.org/site to take the next step. You can also call 877-525-PPMI or email joinppmi@michaeljfox.org to learn more. If you're outside the U.S. or Canada, reach out to a site near you to learn more.
