Andreas Hartmann is a consultant neurologist at the Fédération des Maladies du Système Nerveux and a principal investigator at INSERM U 679, both at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, France. He received medical training (neurology, with sub-internships in psychiatry and neurosurgery) in Munich, Mannheim and Marburg (Germany), and did his postdoctoral fellowship in Paris, France. He also remains an asssociate professor of neurology at the University of Marburg, Germany. His main scientific interests so far have dealt with apoptotic signaling and, more recently, inflammatory pathways in Parkinson's disease. Also, as vice-head of the Center of Clinical Investigations at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, he is currently planning several neuroprotection studies in de novo Parkinson's disease patients.
