Beatrix Feigl, MD, PhD

Associate Professor Feigl has received medical (MD) and specialist training in ophthalmology at the Medical University of Graz, Austria and a PhD from Queensland University of Technology (QUT). Her training included research fellowships in clinical and basic science laboratories in Germany (University of Tuebingen) and the USA (Smith Kettlewell Eye Research Institute). As program leader of the Vision and Eye Program at QUT, she manages and supports over 60 vision scientists. She is an academic in QUT’s School of Biomedical Sciences and lectures clinical and research topics in addition to higher degree research student supervision. She is the Head of the Medical Retina Laboratory at QUT, where she leads a team of postgraduate researchers, post-doctoral fellows and research assistants. Over the past 10 years she and her team have pioneered the clinical applicaton of a novel photoreceptor in the eye (melanopsin) that is responsible for regulating sleep behavior in eye disease including Parkinson’s disease.
