Christian Schlenstedt, PhD, is a professor of sport sciences and neurorehabilitation at the Medical School Hamburg in Germany. He is interested in the development of effective exercises to improve gait and mobility in neurological diseases, particularly Parkinson’s disease (PD). He combines neurophysiological and biomechanical approaches to understand disease-specific mechanisms and to study the effects of treatments. Furthermore, he has a special interest in assessing and treating freezing of gait. Dr. Schlenstedt worked as a researcher at the University of Kiel, Germany, and spent time as a postdoctoral fellow at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland. He was principal investigator of a multi-center trial investigating Split-Belt-Treadmill to treat gait disorders in PD. He is also involved in Mobilise-D, a multi-center study exploring digital mobility outcomes in age-related disorders (including PD). His work has been honored by the German Foundation of Sport Sciences and the Fürst-Donnersmarck-Foundation.
