Dr. Schultz received his doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy in 2013. He practiced for three years as a clinical pharmacy specialist providing medication support for patients with neurodegenerative diseases at the University of Iowa. Dr. Schultz recently joined the psychiatry faculty at the University of Iowa and started his lab, which conducts clinical and translational research involving patients with neurodegenerative diseases, with a focus on Parkinson’s and Huntington’s disease. He and his team take an epidemiological approach to identify environmental factors, including medications, that may have an effect on disease progression. Using this information, Dr. Schultz’s lab uses novel neuroimaging techniques to test specific hypotheses to better understand the mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration. These findings are then translated into clinical trials.
