Jose Bras, PhD, is a human geneticist whose lab focuses on understanding the role of genetic variability in neurological diseases. After eight years at University College London and the UK Dementia Research Institute, Dr. Bras joined the Van Andel Institute in late 2018 where he has established his complex disease genomics program. Recently his group identified the first evidence of the complex genetic architecture of dementia with Lewy bodies, including the disease-specific association at the alpha-synuclein locus. Dr. Bras has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers and currently serves on the editorial boards of Acta Neuropathologica and Journal of Parkinson’s Disease and is an Associate Editor at Frontiers in Neurology - Neurogenetics and Brain Communications.
