Levon Halabelian holds an undergraduate degree in pharmacy from the Yerevan State Medical University, Armenia, an MSc in applied biotechnology from Uppsala University, Sweden, and a PhD in biomolecular sciences from the University of Milan, Italy. In 2014, he joined Structural Genomcics Consortium (SCG) in Toronto as a postdoctoral fellow under the supervision of Dr. Cheryl Arrowsmith to study the structure and function of DNA-binding proteins as well as protein arginine methyltransferases (PRMTs), enzymes that are involved in gene regulation. Dr. Halabelian currently holds a group leader position at the SGC in Toronto and is interested in using X-ray crystallography and other biophysical techniques to characterize the structures of disease-associated WD-repeat proteins and E3 ligases, enzymes that help mark proteins for destruction.
