Dr. Philipp Arnold obtained a diploma degree in biology from the Johannes-Gutenberg University in Mainz in 2008 and started his PhD in structural biology thereafter at the same university. In 2012, he graduated and stayed in the same group as PostDoc until June 2013. He then moved to the Anatomical Institute at the Christian-Albrechts University in Kiel, where he started his own group as an independent group leader. He combines biochemical, cell biological and structural methods to work on proteins and their complexes in cellular contexts. Here, he also started to work on Parkinson’s disease related proteins such as alpha-synuclein and its aggregation behavior. From April - October 2020 he worked at the Medical School Hamburg (MSH) as professor for Neuroanatomy and in November 2020 joined the Institute for Functional and Clinical Anatomy at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). There he continued his work on structural aspects of Parkinson’s disease related protein complexes and could for example solve the structure of the GCase/Limp-2 protein complex.
