Dr. Samer Hussein, PhD, is a professor at Laval University. He has proven expertise in the use of embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cell-based models of reprogramming, neural differentiation and human cerebral organoids. Dr Hussein obtained his PhD in neurological sciences at McGill University and pursued postdoctoral studies at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute in Toronto. His work was among the first to produce a comprehensive catalogue of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) implicated in cell reprogramming and pluripotency. In 2016, he joined Laval University, where he established a research program aiming at understanding the functional role and molecular interactions of pluripotency-related lncRNAs during development and neurological diseases. In parallel to his academic career, Dr. Hussein has been a consultant to several industrial partners in projects related to target protein purifications, model development for drug testing as well as bioinformatics analyses dealing with stem cells and regenerative medicine oriented-data.
