Sjoerd J. Finnema completed his pharmacist training at the University of Groningen in The Netherlands and received a doctorate in experimental neuroscience from the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. After spending time as a postdoctoral fellow and faculty member at the Yale University PET Center, he joined the translational imaging group at AbbVie in 2017. His research focuses on the discovery and translational validation of novel PET imaging probes and their application in clinical studies. His work includes developing PET methodology suitable for measuring changes in neurotransmitter release, exploring the use of SV2A PET as tool for examining synaptic density and producing a tau tracer for progressive supranuclear palsy. At AbbVie, he holds the position of research fellow and leads a molecular imaging team that develops and applies imaging methodology to enable CNS drug discovery and development.
