Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Neuropathologist, Department of Clinical and Movement Neurosciences and Queen Square Brain Bank for Neurological Disorders at UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology

Location: London United Kingdom

Zane Jaunmuktane, MD, FRCPath, is a clinical lecturer and consultant neuropathologist. She leads neuropathological brain examinations at the Queen Square Brain Bank for Neurological Disorders, which holds over 2000 clinically and pathologically characterized brains from neurodegenerative movement disorders, including Parkinson’s disease. Since 2015 she has discovered in several studies that amyloid-beta pathology can be transmitted in humans through medical procedures, and that transmitted amyloid-beta can lead to cerebral bleeds. In her current research, which focuses on the understanding of selective regional and cellular vulnerability in Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders, she uses digital imaging and quantification for accurate determination and regional profiling of misfolded proteins and vascular pathologies.
