Meet Captain Jim: From Navy Veteran to Research Volunteer

Retired Navy captain James A. Schroeder, also known as Captain Jim, is one of the 110,000 U.S. veterans living with Parkinson’s disease.

Ahead of Veteran’s Day, The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) is sharing a new film, “Captain Jim: A Tradition of Service,” directed by filmmaker and Captain Jim’s granddaughter, Brooke McDonough. This film has been made possible with support from MJFF.

Captain Jim and his family are participating in the Foundation’s landmark study, the Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI), as a way they can continue to serve, well beyond military duty. PPMI is enrolling volunteers with and without Parkinson’s disease. Learn more and join the study that could change everything.

In addition to inviting veterans and family members to participate in research, MJFF is advocating for better care for veterans. Right now, Congress is on the verge of increasing funding for specialized care centers for veterans with Parkinson’s. Join us in asking your lawmakers for their support.
