Andrew Sharott, PhD

Professor of Neuroscience at University of Oxford
Location: Oxford, Oxfordshire United Kingdom

Andrew Sharott, PhD is a Professor of Neuroscience at Oxford University and a group leader and Associate Director at the MRC Centre of Excellence in Restorative Neural Dynamics. He is also an Einstein BUA/Oxford Visiting Fellows at the Charité University Berlin and a Senior Research Fellow at Green Templeton College.  During Andrew’s scientific training, Andrew worked on several projects aimed at identifying pathophysiological signatures of Parkinson’s disease using electrophysiological recordings from patients undergoing deep brain stimulation and cell-type specific and population recordings in rodent models. The aim of his research program is to uncover the circuit-level deficits underlying brain disorders, including Parkinson’s disease, and to use this knowledge to develop closed-loop stimulation approaches for treatment. His team apply this approach to preclinical rodent models of disease and work with clinically based collaborators to translate their findings to human applications.
