Duan Xu, PhD

Professor Xu is a faculty in Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at UCSF and core member of the Joint UC Berkeley – UCSF Graduate Program in Bioengineering. He is a trained biomedical engineer who focuses on the development of MRI hardware, acquisition and processing to increase spatial and temporal resolution, shorten scan time as well as investigating new contrast mechanisms. He has 25+ years of experience in leveraging advanced MR techniques for clinical research projects, studying pediatric brain injuries, brain tumor, traumatic injury patients and healthy volunteers using specialized diffusion and spectroscopic imaging techniques in addition to optimization of high resolution anatomic images. Dr. Xu has extensive experience as the PI of several major grants including a NIH Bioengineering Research Partnership for multisite brain imaging developments and a BRAIN Initiative U01 for developing the next generation head-only scanner with GE Global Research.
