Dr. James R. Connor received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1975 from Thomas More College (Ft. Mitchell, KY), a Master of Science from Wright State University (Dayton OH) in Physiology and a PhD in Anatomy from the University of California, Berkeley in 1981. He is currently Professor and Vice-chair of Neurosurgery, Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the G.M. Leader Family Laboratory for Alzheimer's Disease Research at Penn State University, M.S. Hershey Medical Center.
Dr. Connor serves on the Scientific Advisory Boards for the Iron Disorders Institute, Restless Legs Syndrome Foundation and the International Scientific Advisory Board for International Conferences on Metals and Brain and the GlaxoSmithKline Restless Legs Syndrome National Advisory Board. He is a consultant for the International Copper Association and the Board for Research Advancing Iron in Neurology (BRAIN) Vifor (International) Inc. He serves on the editorial boards for GLIA, Journal of Neuroscience Research, Current Neurovascular Research, and Cerebrospinal Fluid Research, and is a former Associate Editor for the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease.
Dr. Connor's research program is focused on understanding the mechanisms for regulation of iron in the brain. ConnorÌÄå¢Ì¢‰Û_åÂÌ¢‰Û_å¢s group pioneered the field of iron in neurobiology and identified iron mismanagement in the brain as a possible contributor to numerous neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's and Restless Legs Syndrome. Dr. Connor has over 100 primary publications, over 30 review articles and has edited or co-edited two books on the role of metals in neurological disorders.
