Maxime Assous, PhD

Senior Lecturer at Cardiff University
Location: Cardiff, Wales United Kingdom

Maxime Assous developed and characterized a new model of Parkinson’s disease based on acute dysfunction of nigral glutamate transporters.

He then joined Prof. Tepper’s laboratory in 2013 (Rutgers University, USA) as a Postdoctoral researcher, characterizing novel populations of striatal GABAergic interneurons, their integration in striatal circuitry and their extrinsic glutamatergic innervation. His research led to a change in our current view regarding striatal circuit organization.

In 2018, Maxime was promoted to Research Associate Faculty position, receiving prestigious award such as a NARSAD Young Investigator Award to study the role of selective basal ganglia circuits in motivated behaviors and in pathologies including drug addiction or Parkinson’s disease.

In January 2023, Maxime moved to Cardiff University as a Senior Lecturer (Wales, UK), establishing his independent laboratory and pursuing his research on striatal microcircuits and their involvement in pathologies including Parkinson’s disease
