Dr. Osama Al Dalahmah is a young investigator who is completing a clinical and research fellowship in neuropathology at Columbia University. He completed his medical school training at the University of Jordan, and his post-graduate training in the University of Oxford, United Kingdom, where he received a DPhil in physiology, anatomy and genetics. Dr. Al Dalahmah worked with his mentor at Oxford, Dr. Francis Szele, on investigating the molecular regulation of neurogenesis in the murine brain, and the role of BMP signaling in astrocyte differentiation and fate-choice. He next joined Columbia University for a joint clinical training in anatomic pathology and neuropathology. His career focus is on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying primary and secondary astroglial responses in neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Al Dalahmah’s current work employs cutting-edge techniques in single cell transcriptomics to understand the role of astrocytes in neurodegeneration in Huntington disease and other neurodegenerative diseases.
