Zhuohua Zhang received his MS in Medical Genetics from Xiangya Medical School in China and his PhD in molecular pathology from the University of California, San Diego. After his postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School, he became a faculty member at the Burnham Institute for Medical Research. The primary research focus in the Zhang laboratory is on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms of Parkinson’s disease. The approach is to determine the pathophysiological function of the genes associated with Parkinson’s disease and their pathogenic mutants as a way of gaining insight into fundamental pathways leading to the disease. His honors and awards include the National Research Service Award, the Charles A. King Trust Research Fellowship, and the V Scholar Award.
