Michael J. Fox seems to be everywhere these days — The New York Times, Good Morning America, NBC and way more. And that’s for good reason! Our Founder and best-selling author just published his fourth memoir, No Time Like the Future: An Optimist Considers Mortality. Diagnosed at 29, Michael’s new book explores how three decades of living with Parkinson’s and recent health setbacks (unrelated to the disease) had him reflecting on the big questions about life, illness and aging.

He shared with The New York Times about his “crisis of conscience” after learning how to walk again post-spinal cord surgery:

Have I been an honest broker with the Parkinson’s community? The understanding I’ve reached with Parkinson’s is sincere, but the expression of it risks being glib.” He used to be a believer in making lemonade out of lemons, but now, he writes, “Screw it — I’m out of the lemonade business.”

Here's a look at recent interview highlights filled with Michael’s signature humor and candor. Click the links below to read each piece in full and be inspired by his timeless advice and reflections:

  • On talking about his father-in-law’s approach to optimism, Michael told ABC’s Good Morning America chief anchor and MJFF Board member George Stephanopoulos: "He would always say, no matter what was going on, 'It gets better, kiddo. It gets better. The last thing you run out of is the future. He lived every day with gratitude and I realized, if there's gratitude, then you have sustained optimism."
  • While speaking with MJFF Board member and anchor Willie Geist on NBC’s Sunday Today, Michael shared the moment he revealed his Parkinson’s diagnosis to his wife, Tracy Pollan: “One of things I’ll always love Tracy for is that at that moment, she didn’t blink,” he says. “She’s there in the front lines with me every single day. She never pretends to know as much as I know. And the other thing Tracy does is, if there’s something funny, let’s get to the funny. We’ll deal with the tragic later.”
  • Michael shares in a Men’s Health exclusive on why he wouldn’t change a thing about his life — even being able to go back in time and not getting Parkinson’s: “There’s the stuff you plan — the stuff you work towards, the stuff you aspire to, your desires and wishes. And then there’s things that just happen. And the things that just happen are usually of more intricate design and a higher purpose.”
  • Speaking with Los Angeles Magazine for the LA Originals Podcast,” Michael delves into accepting his progressive disease and finding appreciation for living in the moment: “It was one of the great ironies of my life that only when it became virtually impossible for me to keep my body from moving would I find the peace, security, and spiritual strength to stand in one place. I couldn’t be still until could—literally—no longer keep still.”

Still, Fox writes in his book, “In the quest to cure Parkinson’s, we’re absolutely certain we’re the tip of the spear.” The Foundation and our worldwide community congratulate Michael on his fourth memoir. Together, this community will speed progress toward a cure.
