Johanna Thunell, PhD, is a research scientist at the Leonard D. Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics and the Sol Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California. Her primary research interests are aimed at identifying and reducing disparities in dementia risk and care. Dr. Thunell’s work has explored methods of measuring diagnosed dementia in Medicare claims, examined the impact of annual wellness visits on dementia diagnoses and highlighted racial and ethnic disparities in disease burden and care. With her expertise in econometric methods, Dr. Thunell explores the effect of policies and care on health and economic outcomes for persons with dementia and their caregivers, and she investigates racial and ethnic disparities in these outcomes.
